About Us

OutTeach is a non-profit organization that provides university mentors to students from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Our Mission

OutTeach allows high school students the opportunity to forge friendships with college students that will benefit their academic, social and psychological well being. Our mentors, who come from Ivy League and other top-ranked institutions, provide guidance and inspiration to ultimately help their mentees graduate high school, strive for success, and enroll in college. Through providing hope, practical advice and long-lasting friendships, our mission is to demonstrate that it is possible for anyone to overcome the low expectations associated with low-performing school districts.

Inspiration

Graduation rates and college matriculation rates are plummeting in low-performing school districts across the country, contributing to increased crime and perpetuating socioeconomic inequality. We believe that students from any background and geographical area are capable of achieving academic success of the highest caliber through hard work and the desire to succeed. This NJ.com article profiles rapid declines in graduation rates in Trenton, home to New Jersey's lowest performing schools.
